Outloud is built so your words stay yours. Your recordings live on your iPhone, in the app. To turn a rambling memo into a clean, titled note, the recording is sent over an encrypted connection to a language model, used only to produce that one note — it isn’t stored on our servers, isn’t logged for training, and isn’t linked to an identity.
Prefer nothing to leave the phone? Switch Cloud AI off in Settings: notes then use Apple’s on-device transcription and a simple on-device structurer. Recording, reading and search always work fully offline either way.
Your recordings (audio files), transcripts, structured notes, tasks, marked moments, tags, and your ink-dot history all live in the app’s local storage on your phone. They are yours. You can export everything at any time, on any tier, and delete any of it whenever you like.
If you turn on optional iCloud sync, your notes are stored in your own private iCloud account so they appear across your devices. That’s between you and Apple — we never see the contents. Audio recordings stay on the phone that made them.
Turning a memo into a note sends that recording, encrypted, to our processing provider, where it’s used to generate the transcript and the structured note for you — then discarded. “Ask your notes,” weekly Reflections, and Threads send the relevant text the same way. Nothing is retained, logged for training, or linked to an identity.
Everything else in the app — recording, reading, searching, exporting — works fully offline and never transmits anything. With Cloud AI switched off, nothing leaves the phone at all.
Without an account, we collect essentially nothing that identifies you. If you contact support, we keep the email address you give us for that purpose only.
Purchases. If you buy Premium, Apple’s App Store takes the payment — we never see your card details or your Apple ID. To keep your purchase working across reinstalls, the purchase record (which plan, when, whether it renews) is processed by RevenueCat, our purchase provider, under a random ID that isn’t tied to your name, email or any account; their requests also carry Apple’s per-app vendor identifier, used only to make purchases work. RevenueCat never receives your notes, recordings or transcripts.
We may collect anonymous, aggregated crash and performance diagnostics to keep the app stable. These contain no note content and aren’t tied to you.
If you installed Outloud from one of our ads, Apple’s private ad attribution (SKAdNetwork) may later tell the ad network, in aggregate and with a delay, that an install happened and roughly how far it got — for example, that a trial started. Apple sends this, not us. Outloud never asks to track you, doesn’t use the advertising identifier, and no identifiers leave your device for this.
We never sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. We never train AI models on your notes or voice. We never read your notes. We never put ads in the app. And we never cap or paywall your own words.
You’re always in control: export all your data with one tap, delete individual notes or wipe everything, manage how long audio is kept, and turn iCloud sync or AI features off entirely. Because most data lives only on your device, deleting it there deletes it, full stop.
If this policy ever changes, we’ll update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app. We’ll never quietly weaken these promises.
