This isn't legal cover for collecting your data — it's an explanation of how little we touch. Last updated June 12, 2026.
Outloud is built so that the most sensitive thing — your actual voice — never leaves your device. Recording and transcription happen entirely on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device speech models, and we never receive your audio.
To turn rambling into a clean, titled note, Outloud sends the transcript text — never the audio — to a language model. For sharper notes this runs in the cloud by default; it’s encrypted in transit, never stored long-term, never used to train models, and deleted right after. You can switch cloud structuring off in Settings to keep everything on your device — task notes already structure on-device, and recording, transcription, reading and search always work fully offline.
Your recordings (audio files), raw transcripts, structured notes, tasks, marked moments, tags, and your ink-dot history all live in the app’s local storage on your phone. They are yours. You can export everything at any time, on any tier, and delete any of it whenever you like.
If you turn on optional iCloud sync, your notes are stored in your own private iCloud account (end-to-end where Apple supports it) so they appear across your devices. That’s between you and Apple — we never see the contents.
AI structuring, “Ask your notes,” weekly Reflections, and Threads need a language model. When you use one of these, the relevant text (not your audio) is sent encrypted to our processing provider, used only to generate that one result, and then discarded. It is not retained, logged for training, or linked to an identity.
Everything else in the app — recording, transcription, reading, searching, exporting — works fully offline and never transmits anything.
Without an account, we collect essentially nothing that identifies you. If you join the waitlist or contact support, we keep the email address you give us for that purpose only. If you buy Premium, the purchase is handled by Apple’s App Store — we receive a subscription status, not your payment details.
We may collect anonymous, aggregated crash and performance diagnostics to keep the app stable. These contain no note content and aren’t tied to you.
We never sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. We never train AI models on your notes or voice. We never read your notes. We never put ads in the app. And we never cap or paywall your own words.
You’re always in control: export all your data with one tap, delete individual notes or wipe everything, manage how long audio is kept, and turn iCloud sync or AI features off entirely. Because most data lives only on your device, deleting it there deletes it, full stop.
If this policy ever changes, we’ll update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app. We’ll never quietly weaken these promises.
